Garden Policies
Neighborliness
- Ensuring an enjoyable gardening experience for all gardeners is a primary goal of the Garden Committee so please respect your fellow gardeners.
- Gardening in the Eagle Heights Gardens is a privilege, and the Garden Committee may enforce all gardening policies.
- Do not use neighboring gardeners' tools or hoses without the owner's permission
- Do not pick anything from neighboring garderners' plots.
- In the Eagle Heights Gardens, a SIX inch (15 cm) path of unplanted space must be maintained on each side of your garden leaving a twelve inch (30 cm) path between plots.
Organic Gardening
No synthetic chemicals (i.e., pesticides, herbicides, etc.) may be used at any time in the Eagle Heights gardens.
The University Houses Gardens are NOT organic.
Resources Provided by Eagle Heights Gardens
- Water spigots within 50 feet of each garden
- Double diggers
- Maintained pathways between rows (i.e., not between individual gardens)
- Garden carts
- Compost and mulch
- (Gardeners must provide their own tools and hoses)
Garden Reassignment:
Plots that appear to be unworked or abandoned may be reclaimed without a refund for reassignment by the Garden Committee.
General:
- White corner markers are to remain in the corners of plots and visible at all times.
- No motorized vehicles are allowed in the garden area.
- Do not throw or leave anything in the paths between rows.
- This includes weeds, hoses, debris and tools.
- Do not plant mint or comfrey in the gardens.
Work Day Agreement
For each plot you are obligated to participate in one work day. There are at least 4 work days throughout the season. Each work day begins at 9:00 promptly and ends at 12:30.
Safety
Do not keep sharp or dangerous implements or chemicals in the gardens where children could get into them.
Plot Abandonment
All gardens should be maintained and weeds will be managed, or they will be classified as abandoned.
During work parties, all plots will be surveyed for weediness. Any plot with weeds taller than 3 feet will be classified as excessively weedy. The gardener of that plot will be emailed. They will have two weeks in which to improve their plot so that it is no longer excessively weedy. Failure to do so will result in that plot being reassigned.
